New Delhi: The Indian and the Royal Army of the United Kingdom will hold a joint combat exercise to hone counter-terrorism skills at the high-tech Land Warfare Centre in Warminster, Salisbury plains, from next week.

The exercise, called "Ajayee Warrior", will include over around 200 Indian soldiers in an "infantry group", and a similar number from the 19th Brigade of the Royal Army.

"The focus will be on counter-terrorism in an urban/rural environment during the exercise, which will conclude on August 31," said defence sources.

Indian troops, including mechanized infantry, have earlier participated in exercises named "Lion's Strike" and "Wessex Warrior" at the Land Warfare Centre at Warminster, which houses state-of-the-art training and simulation systems.

India has also hosted Royal Marine commandos and other soldiers over the years, which included the high-altitude "Himalayan Warrior" counter-terrorism exercise at Ladakh in 2007.
