A Junior Commissioned Officer was killed in Pakistani sniper fire in Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday, as cross border tensions with Pakistan continued.

Security forces also shot dead  three militants belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in an encounter in the Tral area of south Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbagh Singh said, adding that two of the three militants killed could be foreign terrorists.
He also said the Jaish module was involved in the killing of two brothers from the nomadic Gujjar community in August this year.
Pakistan also continued shelling the Indian side in Poonch, where 2 civilians were wounded along the Line of Control in the Mendhar sector. Indian officials said the shelling began at 1.20 pm and that the Indian Army retaliated “strongly”.
The two civilians were taken to a hospital, sources said. Meanwhile, residents of villages in the area took cover in their homes and underground bunkers, officials said, adding that children in the area’s schools were also evacuated to safety.
Meanwhile, some officials also said the Indian Army has defused three live mortar shells fired by Pakistan troops along the LoC in Poonch.
The Indian Army had on Sunday foiled infiltration attempts in Jammu and Kashmir by around 100 terrorists holed up at six launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, just around eight kilometres from the Line of Control, losing three lives - two armymen and a civilian, sources said on Monday.
The Army said tension on the LoC will remain till winter sets in as Pakistan would be make similar attempts to push terrorists in the valley.
