Terrorists holed up in J&K's Pampore, 1 Jawan hurt in firing

A group of two or three Pakistani terrorists managed to travel deep into the Indian territory and are now holed up in a government building in Pampore, some 15 km near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, firing at security forces from inside the building.
An Army personnel is reported to have been injured in the firing while parts of the building, which was already partly damaged in a previous encounter, suffered further damage in a fire today.
Police said security forces have surrounded the building and the militants are now trapped in the building that houses the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JK EDI) complex near Pampore.
"The militants were trapped inside a building in the JK EDI complex near Pampore town," a senior police officer said.
Sources said that terrorists who broke into the institute in the morning approached the campus on the outskirts of Srinagar through boats on the River Jhelum, which flows into Pakistan.
The terrorists entered the seven-storey building, which has more than 50 rooms. At around 6:30 am, according to the police.
They then set sections of the EDI hostel building on fire to lure security forces. When they arrived, a major gunbattle broke out. Explosions were heard since the morning.
"We are confident of neutralising the terrorists as soon as possible," an army officer supervising the operation said.
The EDI building was also targeted in a major attack in February. Three terrorists had laid siege on the building after ambushing a paramilitary police convoy and killing two jawans. Three Army para commandos were killed in a 48-hour-long operation to flush them out. One civilian was killed in the crossfire.
Intel agencies have been warning of terror attacks in retaliation for the surgical strikes conducted by India across the Line of Control two weeks ago.
