Lieut. Gen. AS Sekhon is Director General Military Operations, Indian Army

Lieutenant General Amarjeet Singh Sekhon, commander 15 Corps, assumes charge as director general military operations (DGMO), Indian Army, from Lieutenant General Mohan Pande, who relinquished command on 30 November 2007. Lt Gen Sekhon assumes charge after completing a successful tenure at the Jammu & Kashmir-based 15 Corps.

During his illustrious career, Lt Gen Mohan Pande held varied command, staff and instructional assignments that colonel general staff of a mountain division and as additional director general operational logistics at the Army Headquarters. Lt Gen Pande also had instructional tenures at the National Defence Academy, Pune, Officers Training Academy, Chennai and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

First as Brigadier General Staff and later as Director General of Military Operations, Lt Gen Pande was closely associated with the conceptualisation and development of various doctrinal issues. He was chief of staff, headquarters, Army Training Command, before taking over as the DGMO.
 
Lieutenant General Amarjeet Singh Sekhon was commissioned into Infantry in June 1970. The General Officer has attended all prestigious courses like Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command and National Defence College and has seen active service in all theatres, in both regimental and staff appointments, including the Indo-Pak conflict 1971.

Having commanded his unit in North East and Punjab, Lt Gen Sekhon went on to command an Infantry Brigade along the sensitive Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, where he was decorated with the Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished service during Operation VIJAY in 1999.

In addition to command, the General Officer has held a number of important staff and instructional appointments including instructional tenures at National Defence Academy and the Army War College. Lt Gen Sekhon has also served as Deputy Military Secretary and Brigadier General Staff (Operations) at a command headquarters.

After the National Defence College course, Lt Gen Sekhon went on to serve as deputy director general, Directorate General of Military Operations.

The General has had the distinction of commanding an infantry division in J&K and was awarded the AVSM for his distinguished service along the Line of Control. He has also held the appointment of additional director general of perspective planning. He now takes over as director general of military operations after completion of a successful command of 15 Corps in Jammu & Kashmir.
