CPI for industrial workers rises to 9.29 per cent in June

The consumer price inflation rate based on the consumer price index for June 2009 stood at 9.29 per cent as against 8.63 per cent in May 2009.
The all-India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW - base 2001=100) for June 2009 increased by 2 points and stood at 153.
The indices in respect of the six major centres were: Ahmedabad 147, Delhi 144, Bangalore 165, Kolkata 152, Chennai 147 and Mumbai 155.
During June 2009, the index recorded maximum increase of 7 points in Vijaywada centre, followed by 6 points in Puducherry, 5 points each in Godavarikhani and Warrangal centres. Two centres registered increases of 4 points each, nine centers reported increases of 3 points each and 25 centres registered increase of 2 points each while 23 centres reported increases of 1 point each.
The index recorded a decrease of 1 point each in Ghaziabad and Ernakulam centres, while in the remaining 13 centres the index remained stationary.
The maximum increase of 7 points in Vijaywada centre has mainly been due to increase in the prices of rice, arhar dal, milk (buffalo), vegetable and fruit items, toilet soap etc.
