India's consumer price inflation rises to 6.93% in July

Consumer price inflation in the country based on the consumer price index stood at 6.93 per cent in July 2020, above the Reserve Bank’s tolerance limit of 2-6 per cent, but lower compared to the 6-year high of 7.59 per cent hit in January.
Consumer price inflation has been steadily rising after hitting 3.15 per cent in July last year as food prices continued to rise, as opposed to the wholesale price inflation that has steadily declined till September last year.
Consumer price inflation stood at 6.93 per cent in July 2020, according to data released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation.
The inflation rate based on the consumer price index (CPI) was 6.23 per cent in June 2020.
Data released by the CSO showed that inflation rate for the food basket rose to 9.62 in July 2020 from 8.72 per cent in June.
Consumer price inflation for rural areas stood at 7.04 per cent in July 2020 up from 6.34 in June.
Consumer price inflation for the urban areas rose to 6.84 per cent in July 2020 from 6.12 per cent in June.
Food price inflation for rural areas stood at 9.89 per cent in July 2020, up from 8.84 per cent in June.
Food price inflation for urban areas rose to 9.05 per cent in July 2020 from 8.58 per cent in June.
