The Income Tax department on Friday introduced a free e-PAN facility on a real-time basis, in a bid to reduce the taxpayers' interaction with the IT department and enable taxpayers to generate their permanent account numbers (PAN) without delay.
Taxpayers can log onto the IT portal (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home) to generate the e-PAN. It is available for resident individual tax payers only. and does not cover Hindu Undivided Families (HUF), firms, trusts and companies.
The facility is available for a limited period on a "first-come, first-served" basis for valid Aadhaar holders.
taxpayers will be required to submit any documents as the e-PAN will be generated using the details available in Aadhaar.
Once, the e-KYC is successfully completed based on the Aadhaar OTP, the process of issuing the e-PAN application will be initiated. Taxpayers are required to upload a scanned copy of their signature on a white paper with the specifications given on the IT website.
Once the application has been filed, a 15-digit acknowledgement number will be generated and sent on the applicant's mobile number or email in the application form.
