10 Jan 2014
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today launched an ambitious enrolment drive, hoping to enrol at least 10 million new members by Independence Day, on 26 January, as the party looks for nationwide presence
The AAP, which launched its special `Main Bhi Aam Aadmi' drive today, also announced the waiver of the Rs10 membership fee for those joining till 26 January.
People can join online by filling a form on the party's website (aamaadmiparty.org/join-us). Alternatively, they can also send an SMS with their name, STD code and assembly constituency to 07798220033.
The membership and their numbers will be confirmed through SMS, sources said, adding that even a missed call at 07798220033 will help one to become an AAP member.
Any Indian citizen of 18 years age can become an AAP member, provided he or she is not a member of any other political party registered with the Election Commission of India or member of any other organisation whose views, policies or actions are in conflict with that of the AAP.
Kejriwal said he will give opportunities and responsibilities to all deserving new members and office bearers will be screened by the party.
AAP already has forums in most states and has nominated key personnel in select states to act as agents of growth.
The response from the larger public across the country has been encouraging, according to AAP, which reported a huge jump in its membership since 8 December 2013.
As of now, AAP has the maximum number of new members from Maharashtra, Karanatka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal.
AAP volunteers will undertake door-to-door campaigns across the country to intensify membership drive.
