BJP won’t push for no-confidence motion

The Bharatiya Janata Party, aware that general elections are just a year away, today made it clear that it would not orchestrate a no-confidence move in Parliament against the United Progressive Alliance government.

After the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam decided on Tuesday to pull out of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, there was some speculation whether the government could facea no-trust move.

Party president Rajanath Singh said the BJP was not interested in such a move as the central government would lose the next elections anyway.

"We are not bringing no-confidence motion against the government because there is no point in it. This government will fall on its own," he said.

Earlier, BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had similarly said, "There is no need for no-confidence motion. The government has lost the people's trust. It will fall on its own."
