Commerce ministry to conduct microanalysis of rupee appreciation
04 Jun 2007
The commerce ministry has decided to conduct a microanalysis of the sectors affected hit by the appreciation of the rupee against the US dollar to identify those that might require government help, by the end of this month.
The ministry has set an export target of $160 billion for this year.
Commerce secretary G K Pillai told reporters in Chennai, "We will be doing a micro analysis and see which of the sectors are getting affected. Unless we do this, we will not know how much help they need."
"The
government would step out of the way and provide you
assistance. Your exports will cross $160 billion,"
he said, addressing exporters at an awards function
of the Madras Exports Promotion Council.
