Two US power providers to convert to green fleet

Two of the largest US utility companies in the US, Duke Energy Corp and FPL Group Inc, said yesterday that they would convert their entire fleet of company cars and trucks to plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles by 2020.
Charlotte- (North Carolina) based Duke Energy and FPL Group, based in Juno Beach, Florida, operate a fleet of around 10,000 vehicles, and have committed to replace all these gas powered vehicles to plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles by 2020.
The replacement will bring in potential revenues of at least $600 million for automobile manufacturers who can produce viable plug-in electric vehicles.
The replacement also has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 125,000 metric tons over the next 10 years, the two companies said in a joint statement.
Both companies made the announcement yesterday during the Clinton Global Initiative's fifth annual meeting in New York City.
Duke Energy and FPL Group will begin this transition in the coming years to convert to a new fleet of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by 2020.
