New India Assurance ties up with Mahila Bank for maternity, infertility cover

State-owned general insurance major New India Assurance has tied up with Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) to offer insurance to women across categories, with schemes that would include cover for treatment of infertility and maternity.

Three schemes have been launched to serve customers across various economic backgrounds. Working women can now can opt for schemes, which will also cover loss of earnings due to critical illness or accidents.

The three schemes are BMB Sakhee for women from marginalised sectors, BMB Nirbhaya for the working women and BMB Parivar Suraksha, a family floater scheme that would cover the family of the account holders.

BMB chairman and managing director Usha Ananthasubramanian said, "In the Nirbhaya scheme, complications such as infertility will also be covered apart from maternity. Also, the product will offer coverage for loss of earnings due to critical illness or hospitalisation. The sum assured in the scheme will range from Rs1 lakh to Rs5 lakh." Infertility is not covered in mediclaim schemes available in the market currently.

It will also provide cover for a range of accidental situations uniquely faced by women along with morbid obesity and gynaec health check-up.

"The Nirbhaya scheme will cost Rs1,745 for a Rs1 lakh coverage for a 22-year-old beneficiary. Maternity cover and delivery charges can be claimed after two years in this scheme," DNA quoted a senior New India Assurance official as saying.
