2G scam: HC dismisses scribe’s plea as ‘rubbish’

The Delhi high court today threw out a petition that the Central Bureau of Investigation should name Reliance ADAG chairman Anil Ambani, Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata, corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, and DMK party boss M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal as accused in 2G spectrum case.

Instead, in a brief hearing, Justice Ajit Bharihoke came down hard on the petitioners - M Furquan, a Delhi-based journalist, and Dharmender Pandey, a scrap dealer in Ghaziabad.

"It is a rubbish petition. If I find that you (the petitioner) have tried to interfere with the investigation, then you may be in bigger trouble," the judge said. "Either you withdraw your petition or argue at your own peril."

"The petition is dismissed as withdrawn," the judge said later in his order.

During the hearing, the court refused to grant an adjournment and asked Furquan's counsel to argue the case straight away. It also refused to allow the petitioners to approach "the Supreme Court or other judicial forum" to seek direction to the CBI for broadening the ambit of the ongoing probe in the 2G case.

Earlier, a special CBI court in New Delhi looking into spectrum-related cases also had dismissed the petition as frivolous. Instead, special judge O P Saini had fined the petitioners Rs10,000 each.
