Surya Roshni launches energy saving tubelights

Surya Roshni, India's lighting to steel solutions conglomerate, today launched energy saving T5 and T8 tube lights, thuis becoming the first company in India to launch the these next-generation illumination products.
The new, ultra-thin tube lights are claimed to reduce up to 85 per cent electricity consumption, or a saving of Rs600 on power bills per tube per year compared to an ordinary electric bulb, the coompany said in a press release.
Launching the new products in Mumbai, J P Agarwal, chairman and managing director, Surya Roshni, said, ''We are proud that the T8 tube light from Surya has already been awarded '5 Star' BEE rating by the central government's Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The new products offer better light quality, better comfort, longer life, higher lux levels and better visibility. They reduce glare and have a very soothing effect on the eyes.''
The slim fluorescent tube lights last three times longer (15,000 hours) than conventional tube lights with ISI/BIS marking that have a low life of 5,000 hours and consume five times more energy, Agarwal said.
The unique advantages of T5 lamps over other conventional tube lights are as:
- A life span of 15 years or 15,000 hours (based on 3.3 hours usage per day with electronic ballast)
- Tri-band phosphorous fluorescent powder from Japan that gives high lumen (light) output
- Works at voltages as low as 140V and can withstand voltage surges up to 280V

Surya Roshni ays it currently commands a share of more than 25 per cent in the Indian market. The company clocked a turnover close to Rs1,750 crore for the year ended March 2009.
