Blind South Korean shoots archery world record
28 Jul 2012
In a feat reminiscent of mythological Indian demi-god Arjuna who could shoot accurately when blindfolded, legally blind South Korean Im Dong-Hyun set the first world records of the 2012 Olympics on Friday, scoring 699 points from 72 arrows to beat his own previous world record of 696 set in May this year.
With a 20/200 vision in his left eye and 20/100 in his right, Im cannot read a newspaper unless he holds it close to his eyes. He does not exactly need a guide dog or a blind man's cane when moving around; but he can hardly be expected to see the target clearly.
He has said in press interviews that he just aims at what he sees as a ''blur of yellow'' - the colour of the bull's eye.
