Tourism ministry releases three new social awareness commercials
15 Dec 2009
Tourism minister Kumari Selja here today released three new social awareness commercials for the tourism mininstry, featuring Aamir Khan, who is also a brand ambassador for the ministry's Atithi Devo Bhava campaign.
With an eye to the Commonwealth games, the ministry had launched the Atithi Devo Bhavah social awareness campaign in 2004-05 aimed at influencing a positive outlook among citizens towards foreign tourists and has been appreciated by the travel industry.
In 2008-09, the tourism ministry associated Aamir Khan as the brand ambassador for the ministry to spread awareness messages. Two TV commercials, featuring Aamir Khan, were produced on Molestation of women tourists and Graffiti on Monuments.
Print ads and a radio jingle on Molestation of women tourists were also produced.
The campaigns featuring Aamir Khan were launched on select TV channels, FM radio stations and newspapers including the language media.
The ministry has also hosted a website www.atithi.org.in as an extension of this initiative, seeking public participation to gauge the response and impact of the campaign.
