Dyson releases robot vacuum in Japan
24 Oct 2015
Over a year after Dyson first revealed it planned to release a robotic vacuum cleaner, the company has delivered the 360 Eye.
On the down side, however, it was only available in Japan at this point, and people who want to make this floor-cleaning robot a part of their life would need to have deep pockets.
Mashable reported it had a price tag of ¥149,040 in Japan, or over $1,200.
According to commentators, the special part of the robot was that as its name suggested, the 360 Eye "constantly observes and interprets its surroundings," allowing it to see all around a room at once, according to Dyson.
"This unique 360 degree vision system uses complex mathematics, probability theory, geometry, and trigonometry to map and navigate a room," the company added. "So it knows where it is, where it's been, and where it's yet to clean."
The robot comes with a digital motor that is capable of spinning at up to 78,000 RPM, generating what Dyson called the "highest suction of any robot vacuum." The 360 Eye also featured Dyson's "Radial Root Cyclone" technology, which generated high centrifugal forces capable of capturing particles as small as pollen and mold.
According to a Dyson spokesperson the new vacuum was only available in the Dyson Store in Tokyo and a number of other "selected stores throughout Japan." Dyson has promised to make it available to the rest of the world, in 2016.
Dyson's round, but tall, 360 Eye comes with a, 360 camera that is pointed at a 45-degree angle so it can see the whole room.
It also comes with sensors to help it avoid steps and furniture and can be connected to users' smartphone to allow it to be controlled and monitored from afar.
Apart from the intelligence, the real marquee feature might be Dyson's 100,000 RPM Dyson digital motor say commentators.
