EC calls for details on proposed gas price hike

The issued had already been discussed by the commission which was not seeking more details from the government.
PTI cited sources saying the commission had a detailed meeting on the issue on Saturday evening and would further debate the matter at its meeting today.
The commission said earlier that it had taken note of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal's complaint that on a proposal by Reliance Industries the petroleum ministry would be hiking gas prices from 1 April.
In a letter to the EC, Kejriwal had termed the gas price hike as violation of the model code of conduct and alleged that the decision was aimed at ensuring windfall gains for Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries.
Meanwhile, petroleum minister M Veerappa Moily had clarified that the government would not go back on its decision to hike rates from 1 April.
He added that the decision on hiking the gas price for both public sector and private producers had gone through a governance process.
He said that the hike had been considered twice by the cabinet and approved twice.
