Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is partnering with the Pran Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) – Ayushman Bharat - to provide medical care to ESIC beneficiaries in 102 designated newly implemented districts, minister of state for labour and employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar has said.
He further said the ESIC has relaxed norms for opening of hospitals and now 30 bedded hospitals will be built where 20,000 IPs are present. He also informed about ESIC–Chinta se Mukti mobile app and availability of helpdesk for stakeholders.
Speaking at the third graduation ceremony of ESIC Dental College and Hospital, Rohini, Delhi organised at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi on Wednesday, the minister said the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation is a pioneer social security organisation providing comprehensive social security benefits like reasonable medical care and a range of cash benefits in times of need such as employment injury, sickness, death etc.
The ESI Act applies to premises/precincts where 10 or more persons are employed. The employees drawing wages up to Rs21,000 a month are entitled to health insurance cover and other benefits, under the ESI Act. The Act now applies to over 1.21 million factories and establishments across the country, benefiting about 34.9 million family units of workers. As of now, the total beneficiary population of ESI Scheme stands over 135.6 million.
Since its inception in 1952, the ESI Corporation hasset up 159 hospitals, 1,500 dispensaries, 148 ISM units, 793 branch/pay offices, 29 dispensary-cum-branch offices and 64 regional and sub-regional/divisional offices.
