Facebook to leverage mobile base to increase India presence

Social networking company Facebook is likely to use a new strategy for increasing its presence in the Indian market considering the mismatch between India's population and the internet penetration.
Instead of just web users, the company will also try to leverage the huge mobile user base in India to increase its presence in the India.
Currently, the company has about 15 million active users in India out of about 500 million globally.
With a billion plus population and 600 million mobile phones, between them, India still has a long way to go in mobile communications.
According to Meenal Balar, interntional marketing manager, people in India had more mobile experience than web experience. She added Facebook had been working with several mobile handset makers to offer customers some compelling applications for its platform. She added that Facebook was working with almost all the operators including Aircel, Airtel, Idea and others, she said.
According to Don Faul, director of global online operations, Facebook Hyderabad would focus on building online operations, supporting users, advertisers and developers, around the world. He added the team here would work with the users, advertises, and developers. The users' questions and those of the developers would be handled by the teams here. He said for advertisers too the teams would answer all the questions on making user of the platform in their advertisement campaign.
