Indus Towers, India's largest telecom tower company, has increased its total number of green sites to 50,461 in 2015-16, up from about 35,000 that the company had put up in 2013-14. With this, the percentage of the company's green sites have increased to 144 per cent of its total telecom towers.
Indus Towers has also lowered the energy consumption in mobile towers by 25-30 per cent by converting indoor sites to outdoor. Carbon emissions have also been significantly reduced, achieving a reduction of around 10.39 per cent in diesel consumption in 2015-16, the company said in a statement.
The company has also converted half of its tower portfolio to outdoor sites to ensure minimal energy consumption, it added.
Indus Towers currently operates over 1.22 lakh towers across the country.
Through its 'Shut AC' initiative Indus Towers has converted over 13,991 sites from indoor-to-outdoor (non-AC) by shutting down ACs across the country, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon emission and pollution. Indus Towers has also deployed solar solutions at more than 1,000 sites to reduce CO2 footprint.
Indus has presence across 15 telecom circles and has achieved over 2,82,909 tenancies till date.
