Tehran: Iran has assured India that it would consider the country's request for raising the quantity of LNG to be supplied from 5-million tonnes to 7.5-million tonne annually and the two countries would try to resolve the pricing issue.

Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki conveyed the assurance to E Ahamed, minister of state for external affairs during a 30-minute meeting in Teheran, yesterday. The two leaders reiterated the commitment of the two countries to go ahead with the proposed Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project.

Ahamed also sought Iran's support for India's planned bid for hosting the 2014 Asian Games. The Iranian minister also underlined that the two countries would discuss "whatever obstacles" may come in the way of promoting friendly relations.

The agreement for the supply of $22-billion worth LNG was signed in 2005 but it has failed to take off due to Iran's insistence on a price revision. During his visit to Tehran last month, external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee asked Iran to keep its commitment and implement the deal.
