JPC to summon A Raja, Behura in 2G probe
21 Mar 2012
A Raja, who has been in jail for more than a year for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam of 2008 as the then telecom minister, will now be summoned by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that is looking into the telecom allocation scam.
The JPC headed by Congress member of Parliament P C Chacko, consists of nearly 30 MPs, including those from the opposition party as well.
The JPC will also summon former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, who is also in jail along with Raja, to depose before it.
The JPC had earlier written to Tihar jail authorities to present Behura before it for which the CBI court had granted permission in July last year.
Raja has been named the main accused in the telecom scam involving out-of-turn allocation of second generation radio spectrum to mobile phone service providers.
The Supreme Court had, last month, cancelled 122 licences issued by Raja in 2008 and had ordered fresh sale through a tendering process.
The JPC has been questioning several people connected with the telecom alongside the court-supervised investigation by the CBI into the scam.
