LPG dealers to start 'preferred time delivery scheme'
13 Jul 2010
The petroleum ministry today announced the launch of a value-added scheme in the LPG distribution space whereby dealers would make available cooking gas at the customer's preferred time, but at an additional cost.
Union minister of petroleum and natural gas Murli Deora announced the new service for domestic LPG customers today.
Under the scheme, LPG consumers will be able to get home delivery of the LPG refills on the day and time they choose by paying an additional Rs25 or Rs50 per cylinder.
In the first phase, this service will be made available in the cities of Delhi, Gurgoan, NOIDA, Faridabad, Sonepat, Ghaziabad, Pune and Bengaluru. The service will soon be made available in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad by end of this month. The other major cities across the country would be able to avail this facility by the end of 2010.
This initiative would be of great help to the working people and where there is nobody in the house to accept delivery during normal working hours. The scheme is optional, minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Jitin Prasada said.
The government has also recently launched Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Scheme (RGGLVY) to provide LPG in rural areas so that rural womenfolk are also benefited by the cooking fuel, which is convenient and easy. The scheme would also help in expanding the LPG coverage to 75 per cent of population by 2015.
