Dubai Investments Industries arm plans steel fabrication unit in India

Mumbai: Emirates Building Systems, a subsidiary of the UAE-based Dubai Investments Industries (DII), will set up a steel fabrication facility in India. The company which manufactures steel structures, will partner an Indian company for the venture.
DII general manager Shukri Salem Al Muhairi said that the facility will have an initial capacity of 50,000 tonne per year. He, however, did not elaborate on the project cost. "We are in final discussions with an Indian company to establish a steel fabrication facility. Our assessment is that India has great growth potential so we want to position ourselves in that market," he said. Accorging to reports, Emirates Building Systems is also expanding capacity at its Dubai fabrication yard from 45,000 tonne to 80,000 tonne per year.
DII also recently set up another subsidiary, Dubai Cranes and Technical Services, to enter the business of cranes used in a wide range of activities. Its workshop in Dubai will be ready by the end of 2008.
DII is also into the dairy, glass and pharmaceuticals businesses.
