Qualcomm, Ericsson demonstrate LTE-TDD technology
01 Dec 2010
Qualcomm and Ericsson demonstrated live streaming of multi high-definition video feeds inside a mobile van yesterday in a move that marks an advance of 3G technology in India.
The companies demonstrated flawless delivery of applications such as high-definition multimedia streaming and live TV inside the van, which was moving at speeds of 50 to 70 km per hour.
However, there is a waiting period for users before the technology can be launched in the Indian market. The launch of the 3D and LTE-TDD is likely to happen by mid-2011 when it would be offered with infrastructural support through smart phones and mobile chipsets.
A similar trial cum demonstration was conducted earlier at the Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai, on Monday.
''We are pleased to have collaborated with Ericsson on this demonstration showcasing LTE-TDD mobility in an outdoor environment in India,'' said Kanwalinder Singh, president of Qualcomm India and South Asia and senior vice-president of Qualcomm.
Singh added that the company was in talks with all mobile operators that had won the 3G spectrum. He said that all operators had evinced interest in the technology and the company was hoping to secure a good market in India, asserted Singh.
