Verizon iPhone to be available for sale from 10 February
13 Jan 2011
The newly-announced Verizon iPhone appears to have generated so much interest that it caused an outage of the Verizon website intermittently, reminiscent of AT&T's iPhone4 pre-order woes last year.
According to analysts, the reports of outage seem to suggest that the pent-up demand for the Verizon iPhone resulted in overwhelming the carrier's servers at times throughout the day.
It has been reported that attempts to access the upgrade section of Verizon's website timed-out or received the message: "Can't open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."
Verizon announced the much-touted and long-awaited CDMA iPhone yesterday at a press event in New York City.
Analysts say that an even greater surge in traffic may be expected when the device is available for pre-order ''on or around 3 February" ahead of its official 10 February release date.
Verizon customers would be able to get the phone before it is available to others, for which, they need to sign up on the Verizon website.
