Wind turbine capacity rises to 1650 KW; XI plan targets 10,500 MW

India generates 9,522 MW, based on its current wind power turbine capapcity till the end of last month. According to the ministry of renewable energy the current state-wise wind power installation capacity, is:
India's traget for capacity expansion in the Eleventh 5-year Plan is 10,500 MW or double the the 5,456 MW achieved in the last 5-year Plan.

The capacities of the wind turbines installed in the country so far range from 225 kw to 1650 kw.
A total of 216 potential locations have so far been identified in 13 states / union territories, as being suitable for installation of wind turbines. Of these, five new locations have been identified in three states during the last three years the ministry said in a statement.
