Internet sales in Australia defy economic uncertainty
27 Jun 2012
With so many Australian companies battling to remain profitable, companies are seeing a rise in internet orders.
According to new figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, firms reaped a rich haul worth $189 billion in online purchases in 2010-11.
They say this must have come as an absolute godsend for retailers especially, given that Australians were becoming more cautious with their cash due to the uncertain economic climate.
The number of businesses that said they received orders via the web went up from 13 per cent in 2009-10 to 28 per cent the following year.
Enterprises have found the going really tough in recent years and many had found it very difficult to get hold of much needed business loans from the nation's banks.
It was of vital importance for the wider economy that businesses are able to expand, though lenders had been far more strict about lending.
