Amazon announces the latest round of job cuts in recent layoffs
09 Nov 2023
E-commerce giant Amazon.com has confirmed that it has started to let go of some employees in its music division. This new round of job cuts is the latest among the many rounds prior to this that have affected over 27,000 people in the past year.
Amazon.com announced these layoffs on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. This announcement has impacted employees in North America, Latin America, and Europe.
The exact number of employees affected has not been disclosed by Amazon.com yet.
An Amazon spokesperson has mentioned that they have been closely monitoring organizational needs and prioritizing aspects crucial to customers and the long-term health of their businesses. They also noted that certain roles had been eliminated on the Amazon Music team but emphasized their commitment to ongoing investments in Amazon Music.
Places such as Washington State, California, or New York, which are among the company’s largest centers, have not yet reported recent mass layoff filings. Despite Amazon reporting a third-quarter net income that exceeded analyst estimates by a significant margin and projecting revenue for the final quarter of the year in line with expectations, the fourth quarter remains pivotal for Amazon, especially with the holiday shopping season underway.
Amazon recently undertook discreet job cuts, particularly affecting communications staff within its Studios, Video, and Music divisions last month. Amazon Music, a platform that includes podcasts, is in competition with Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music, offering paid unlimited music streaming services.
