2G scam: Tata slams Chandrashekar; backs probe from 2001
09 Dec 2010
Quick to latch on to the observation by the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam should be extended backward to 2001 (See: Probe NDA role in 2G scam as well, suggests SC), when the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA was in power, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata today expressed his support in that direction.
"Many of the telecom flip flops occurred during the BJP Regime," said Tata.
On former BPL promoter and now Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar's allegation that group company Tata Teleservices was a beneficiary of out-of-turn allocation of spectrum, Tata said that the true position is that TTSL has not, "I repeat not", been advantaged in any way by Raja or any earlier minister.
Tata has also strongly refuted the allegations in the open letter by Chandrasekhar, who had alleged that Tata's position is contradictory on crucial telecom matters.
In his reply, Tata wrote, '''Your (Chandrasekhar) affiliation to a political party is well known.'' Tata said that the motive behind Chandrasekhar's open letter was only to embarrass Prime Minister Manmohan Singh .
