Chennai: Former telecom minister A Raja's aide and realtor Sadiq Batcha was found dead, hanging, at his residence in Chennai on Wednesday. Suspected of being a frontman for the scam-tainted minister Batcha had recently been questioned by the CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.
A small time sari peddler before making A Raja's acquaintance, Sadiq Batcha's rapidly transformed fortunes saw him becoming managing director of real estate firm Green House Promoters.
Raja's relatives have stakes in that firm.
Police sources said Batcha may have committed suicide. Apollo Hospitals, where he was rushed to, confirmed that he was brought dead.
"He was brought dead to the Apollo hospital at about 1.30 pm. The family says he had hanged himself. Police is yet to verify anything. We are investigating," Chennai Police Commissioner T Rajendran told reporters.
Police are at his house conducting enquiries.
