Former director general of corporate affairs B K Bansal and his son committed suicide on Tuesday, nearly a month after Bansa'ls wife and daughter committed suicide by hanging themselves.

Bansal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in July on charges of accepting bribe and attempting to scuttle a probe against a Mumbai-based Elder Pharmaceuticals, was on bail on humanitarian grounds following the death of his wife and daughter.

Bansal's wife and daughter had committed suicide on 19 July, earlier this year. Bansal's wife Satyabala (58) and his daughter Neha (28) had committed suicide by hanging themselves from ceiling fans in different rooms of their first-floor flat in Neelkanth Apartments in Madhu Vihar area.

The two had left separate suicide notes saying that the CBI raids had caused them great humiliation.

Police said Bansal and his son allegedly hanged themselves and their bodies were discovered at around 9 am today by the house maid.

They have left two separate suicide notes and police are investigating the matter.

Bansal, an additional secretary-rank officer in the ministry of corporate affairs, was arrested by the CBI on 16 July for allegedly accepting bribe from the pharmaceutical company.

The CBI had carried out searches at eight locations in connection with the case during which the agency had claimed to have made cash recoveries.

He was later arrested but released on bail on 3 August,  by a CBI court on humanitarian grounds, despite opposition from the CBI.

Special CBI judge Gurdeep Singh said that Bansal had lost his wife and daughter and had granted him bail on a bond of Rs1 lakh.

Bansal's son was also reported to have been suffering from depression.

Judge Singh had said that he kept in view the unfortunate events where his wife and daughter committed suicide when he was in police custody and that Bansal himself was suffering from a medical condition before deciding to grant him bail.
