Ajay Bijji, CMD, PVR wins ‘Entrepreneur of the year award’

Ajay Bijli, chairman and managing director, PVR Ltd. won the ''Entrepreneur of the Year'' award at the inaugural edition of the Videocon India Youth Icon Awards.
The award was presented at a ceremony held recently at the Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon.

The awards aim to recognise and reward individual excellence and exemplary achievement in the genres of business, sports, entertainment, media, social welfare and justice, science and technology, arts, politics and entertainment, culminating with the Icon of The Year Award.

On winning the award, Ajay Bijli said, ''I dedicate this award to my team of professionals who I consider to be partners in PVR's success story and also my best investment and my strongest assets. I believe that small beginnings make great enterprises but only great teams make the dream last. What started as one man's vision today has been elevated to an Iconic status not because one man believed in it but for the fact that my colleagues at PVR made this vision their own and strived to make it work.''

He further added that, ''India is a developing nation, and indeed the country depends on the youth, who are truly the future of the nation. To all the young entrepreneurs, I would like to say that your foresight, vision and passion is what will change the world; to herald a new world, you will have to become the change.''

The nominees were decided by a panel of illustrious seniors from different walks of life. On the eminent panel was IPS officer Dr Kiran Bedi, journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, filmmaker Shyam Benegal, tennis ace Leander Paes, cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan, actor and social activist Shabana Azmi, singer Usha Uthup, and chairman - Videocon Industries Limited Venugopal Dhoot.

The winners were chosen by the nation, through online voting. The list of the short listed nominees along with details were announced and uploaded for online voting by the masses.
