And now, Adani Group dumps Wharton event over Modi issue
04 Mar 2013
The Adani Group, one of the main sponsors of the conference being organised by the Wharton Business School, has decided to withdraw funding of the event after the US business school unceremoniously dropped Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the keynote speaker.
Gujarat-based Adani group, however, said Adani had taken the decision not to attend the event almost a fortnight back due to some pressing engagements.
A spokesperson of the Wharton India Economic Forum also said that Adani group chief Gautam Adani had told the business school days ago that would not be able to attend the event because of a scheduling conflict.
This evening, however, Wharton confirmed that the Adani Group had decided it would no longer be a "platinum sponsor" as well.
This means that the Adani Group, one of the main sponsors of the conference, will withdraw funding for the event.
Earlier, Shiv Sena leader Suresh Prabhu had opted out of the conference after the Wharton event managers decided to drop Modi's planned video-conferencing.
