A senior BJP politician from Madhya Pradesh is under the CBI scanner in connection with the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood in which three persons including a woman architect and the alleged contract killer have been arrested.
An Indore court has remanded the architect Zahida Pervez, and co-accused Sakib Ali to six days' CBI custody, while the alleged contract killer identified as Irfan has been taken under judicial custody for 14 days by a court in Kanpur.
According to CBI sources in New Delhi, on the basis of Zahida's interrogation, the agency was likely to soon make another arrest.
Irfan, who was picked up by UP Special Task Force from a house at Talaq Mahal locality of Kanpur late last night, has confessed that he, along with two others had been hired for Rs3 lakh for the killing in Bhopal last year, according to Kanpur police.
CBI added it was yet to ascertain the exact motive that led to the killing of the 32-year-old Masood. It added a clearer picture would emerge after detailed questioning of Zahida and Irfan.
A PTI report cited CBI sources in Delhi as claiming that the BJP politician under its scanner was quite close to Zahida though it did not name the politician.
