BlackBerry India Managing Director Sunil Dutt resigns
09 Mar 2013
BlackBerry India managing director Sunil Dutt has resigned, just weeks after the smartphone manufacturer launched its new operating system BB10 and unveiled a handset operating on the platform.
However, the reasons for the resignation were not immediately known. Dutt had joined BlackBerry in 2011.
''I can confirm Sunil Dutt has left his position as managing director, BlackBerry India, with immediate effect. We wish Sunil well for the future,'' a company spokesperson said.
In the interim, Rick Costanzo, executive vice president for global sales, will take over the leadership in India.
BB10 is the most important launch for the Canadian company, which has lost market share to companies such as Apple and handsets working on Google's Android platform.
India is the ninth biggest market for BlackBerry, and following an initial consumer response the company beefed up its sales forecast for BB10 devices by 40 per cent in India.
