Congress has motives for defaming Lokpal movement: Hazare
13 Jun 2011
Anna Hazare, civil society member of the Lokpal bill drafting committee, today accused the Congress Party and its ministers at the centre of "defaming" the Lokpal movement with ulterior motives.
The 74-year-old anti-corruption crusader said he had written a letter to Congress Party supremo Sonia Gandhi to draw her attention towards the "mudslinging."
Hazare, who was speaking at a felicitation function organised by an NGO in Ahmednagar ahead of the next meeting of the Lokpal draft committee in Delhi due on 15 June, said the aim of those in power is to demoralise and confuse agitators fighting against corruption.
The civil society members of the Lokpal bill drafting committee, meanwhile, wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to support the demand for inclusion of the PM's post in the ambit of Lokpal, without which the law will be another lame duck.
The Congress camp, on the other hand, stepped up attack on Hazare alleging links with opposition BJP and its support base the RSS.
Congress also dubbed the Gandhian as an "unelected dictator" who is "reading the script of forces attempting to destabilise the country".
