Delhi Police arrest Hazare, supporters on ‘fast day’

Social activist Anna Hazare was picked up by plainclothes police from his New Delhi home early today to prevent him from reaching the venue of his indefinite public fast for a strong anti-corruption bill.
Hazare was whisked away in an unmarked car.
Fellow-activists, former senior policewoman Kiran Bedi and RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal. were also arrested. They are reportedly being held at the police officers' mess at Civil Lines, where they were formally arrested after a magesterial hearing.
Some 250 citizens who were set to march to J P Park, the proposed venue of the fast, in defiance of government orders, were also arrested in the first wave of arrested.
Angered citizens descended on the venue courting arrest and some 2,000-3,000 had been arrested.
TV cameras showed images of bus loads of arrested citizens being picked up and removed from J P Park.
