DK Sikri is new chairman of Competition Commission of India

An IAS officer of 1975 batch in the Gujart cadre, Devender Kumar Sikri, today took charge as the chairman of Competition Commission of India.
Sikri replaces Ashok Chawla who demitted office on 7th January, 2016.
The Competition Commission was established in 2003 to replace the erstwhile Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission. The Commission draws its power from the Competition Act, 2002 and has been empowered to check anti-competitive behavior and regulate mergers & acquisitions.
Sikri has served in various positions at the centre and government of Gujarat. At the centre, he was secretary, department of justice, ministry of law and justice; secretary, ministry of women and child development (WCD); registrar general and census commissioner of India; Joint Secretary.
In Gujarat, he wasc commissioner, industries promotion, sales tax Commissioner, vice-chairman and managing director of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation and Managing Director of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd.
He has been on the board of National Fertilizers Ltd, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd (RCF), Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-op Ltd. (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Coop Ltd. (KRIBHCO) and Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT).
