DNA evidence matches Strauss-Kahn samples

Evidence from the clothing of a hotel maid matched DNA samples submitted by former IMF managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is facing charges of sexual assault according to media reported today.
According to The New York Times, which cited a person briefed on the matter, the test results were consistent with what law enforcement officials have said about the account provided by the woman.
The paper,which cited law enforcement officials, also reported matching of Strauss-Kahn's DNA sample with semen on the woman's shirt.
According to the report, other tests including ones on samples taken from the carpet in the hotel suite were pending.
Strauss-Kahn who is facing charges of assault and attempting to rape the maid at the Sofitel hotel in New York on 14 May is being held in an apartment in Manhattan under armed guard. He was freed on bail on Friday.
Strongly denying the charges against him, in a letter to IMF staff that was circulated yesterday, Strauss-Kahn called the events around his arrest "a personal nightmare."
