Dr P C Alexander passes away

Top civil servant and a close aide of former prime minister Indira Gandhi Dr P C Alexander passed away in a Chennai hospital yesterday. He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters.
Alexander, 90, died of cancer at Madras Medical Mission Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the last few weeks.
A 1948 batch IAS officer, Alexander was highly regarded for his integrity, impartiality and efficiency.
Alexander, a post-graduate in History arid Economics from Travancore University, also had M.Litt and D.Litt degrees (by research) from the Annamalai University before joining civil service.
He had also attended the Board of Trade UK, under a Nuffield Foundation Fellowship and had done research at the Stanford Research Institute, California, USA. under a Ford Foundation Fellowship.
From 1981 to '85 Alexander was principal secretary to prime ministers Indira Gandhi and after her Rajiv Gandhi.
