Gopal Das appointed new CMD, BSNL

Mumbai: BSNL has announced the appointment of its director human resources, Gopal Das, as its new chairman and managing director.
Das, a veteran of 35 years in the telecom sector, joined the department of telecom in 1975 and shifted to BSNL in 2007 and his tenure marked by the state-owned telecom giant's largest corporate restructuring, following the recommendations of the Boston Consulting Group, in December 2008.
Prior to joining BSNL, Das was chief general manager, (wireless services) in MTNL at Mumbai.
Das has served on overseas deputation assignments in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria as project director.
In addition he has been seconded to overseae study assignments to the US, UK, France, Australia, Singapore and Korea to gain an exposure on the management of telecom systems in a global environment.
Das is an engineering graduate from Banaras Hindu University.
