Hasmukh Adhia replaces G S Sandhu as new financial services secretary
04 Nov 2014
In yet another bureaucratic shake-up, the finance ministry on Monday announced the shifting of financial services secretary G S Sandhu out of the ministry and replacing him with Hasmukh Adhia, a 1981 Gujarat cadre IAS officer.
Sandhu, a 1980 Rajasthan cadre IAS officer, has been made chairman of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Monday approved the appointment of Gurdial Singh Sandhu secretary in the Department of Financial Services in the ministry of finance as chairman of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention.
He will hold the rank and pay of secretary in the vacancy of Prajapati Trivedi.
The ACC also approved the appointment of Hasmukh Adhia, at present secretary in the Department of Financial Services in the ministry of finance, in place of Gurdial Singh Sandhu on his relinquishing the charge of the post, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) stated in an official release late on Monday.
This is the third secretary level change in the finance ministry after former revenue secretary Rajiv Takru was shifted to Department of North Eastern Region and former finance secretary Arvind Mayaram was shifted to tourism ministry and then to minority affairs ministry.
The transfers come at a time when the finance ministry has started work on preparing the budget for 2015-16.
It may be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an interaction with secretaries of various ministries and departments two days ago, when Modi is reported to have said that the budget should be "output to outcome-oriented" - that investments should have measurable outcomes.
