Hazare supporter and social activist shot dead in Bhopal
16 Aug 2011
Anna Hazare's peaceful anti-corruption crusade has perhaps had its first violent repercussion, as Bhopal-based social activist Shehla Masood was shot dead in broad daylight at around 11.30 am today.
Her last update on Facebook quoted Mahatma Gandhi. "Gandhi: 'the purpose of civil resistance is provocation.'
Anna has succeeded in provoking the government and the opposition. Hope he wins us freedom from corruption. Meet at 2 pm Boat Club Bhopal," it read.
Unidentified assailant shot her dead from point blank range while she was leaving in her car to attend the afore-mentioned demonstration in support of Anna Hazare and his anti-corruption movement.
Masood, aged 35, was driving a car when she was attacked close to her residence in the Koh-e-Fiza area of Bhopal.
Apparently nobody heard the gunshot. When the car suddenly stopped dead, family members came out of the house to find that she had collapsed with blood oozing from her chest.
