Home minister Amit Shah tests positive for Covid-19, admitted to hospital

Union home minister Amit Shah who took over management of corona care in the capital following a sudden spike in cases has himself tested positive for the new coronavirus (Covid-19) on Sunday even as Delhi reported 961 new cases in last 24 hrs, taking the total to 1,37,677. The minister has been admitted to a hospital. 

Shah took to social media to inform about his infection. "I have tested positive but my health is fine," he said, adding that he has been hospitalised on the advice of doctors. The union home minister also appealed to those who came into close contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested for corona virus (Covid-19).
"I request those who came in contact with me in last few days to get tested for coronavirus and isolate themselves," he wrote in a message on Twitter. 
"On getting the initial symptoms of corona, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done," Shah tweeted again.
BJP leaders wished the home minister speedy recovery. 
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy tweeted, "I am sorry to hear from news media that Amit Shah has to be admitted to hospital because he has tested positive for Coronavirus. I wish him a speedy recovery and pray for his early discharge."
On Saturday, Shah addressed a webinar 'Lokmanya Tilak: Swaraj to Atmanirbhar Bharat' organized by ICCR Delhi on the 100th death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak.
India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 1.7-million mark on Sunday, just two days after it went past 1.6 million.
The total coronavirus cases surged to 17, 50,723, while the death toll climbed to 37,364 with 853 people succumbing to the disease in a day. The recoveries have increased to 11, 45,629, while there are 5, 67,730 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country at present.
The dead also included Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Kamla Rani Varun who succumbed to the pandemic
The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 65.44 per cent while the fatality rate has further dropped to 2.13 per cent, health ministry data showed.
