Industrialist Arvind Mafatlal passes away

Mafatlal Group patriarch and well known industrialist Arvind N Mafatlal passed away on Sunday at Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh. He was 88.
He is survived by son Hrishikesh Mafatlal, who is the chairman of the Arvind Mafatlal Group, and daughter Maithili Desai.
Mafatlal was suffering from paralysis for the past few years and was flown out of Mumbai to Chitrakoot in Mahya Pradesh, as he wanted to spend his last days there.
He spent his last days at the Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, which also runs a hospital. His last rites would be performed inside the Sangh's premises, as per the wishes of Mafatlal, who was also the chairman of the Trust.
Born on October 27, 1923, Mafatlal joined the family business at the age of 21 and he took up the reins of Gagalbhai Mafatlal and Co after the death of his father in 1955.
Mafatlal had also served as director of the Reserve Bank of India and the Industrial Development Bank of India, trustee of the Bombay Port Trust, chairman of the executive council of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, member of the advisory committee of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, and member of the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
