JK Group doyen Gaur Hari Singhania dies of heart attack

JK Group chairman Gaur Hari Singhania (80) died in Kanpur today, following a heart attack. He was cremated this afternoon in Kanpur.
He is survived by his son Yadupati Singhania.
Gaur Hari Singhania was president of J K Organisation and a promoter director of JK Cement Ltd since its inception in 1994. He was also the chairman of several group companies like Jaykay Enterprises Ltd, JK Cotton Ltd and JK Traders Ltd.
He was the founder-chairman of the UP Stock Exchange and founder-patron of the Associated Chamber of Commerce.
Singhania was chairman of the Merchants of Uttar Pradesh and the Employers Association of Northern India.
He also served as director in various corporations such as Pradeshiya Industrial Investment Corporation of Uttar Pradesh, UP State Industrial Development Corporation and Uttar Pradesh State Sugar Corporation.
He also set up the University in Udaipur, Rajasthan besides contributing to various universities.
A sports lover, he was the chief patron of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. He also set up the Sir Padampat Singhania Bridge Academy, to promote bridge as a sport. He had served UPCA for the last two decades.
Singhania was born on 12 June 1935 in Kanpur in the illustrious family of JKs.
Since childhood, he had interest in sports, literature, cultural activities, besides academics. He had a Masters degree and a Ph.D. in economics.
