Kejriwal moves HC over detention in Gadkari defamation case

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party who prefers the title of AAP's 'convenor',  today moved the Delhi High Court against a trial court order under which he is being held at Delhi's Tihar Jail in the Nitin Gadkari defamation case.

The high court will hear Kejriwal's plea on Tuesday.

Kejriwal was earlier pulled up by the lower court for his "arrogance" in refusing to pay the bail bond, and extended his judicial custody. Kejriwal had refused to pay the bail bond saying that it would be an admission of guilt; and was sent into 14 days' judicial custody.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitin Gadkari – a likely candidate for a cabinet post in the Narendra Modi government – had taken Kejriwal to court for defamation after Kejriwal named him in a list of "corrupt politicians".

"I have done no crime and I have been jailed where as he is still moving around free," Kejriwal had said on Friday. But now he seems to be having second thoughts about continuing to sit on his high horse and languish behind bars.
