Lalita Gupte joins Alstom’s board of directors

The annual shareholders' meeting of Alstom, held in Paris on 22 June 2010, has approved the appointment of Lalita Gupte, former joint managing director and member of the board of ICICI Bank Ltd, as a member of Alstom's board of directors, along with and Katrina Landis, group vice president of BP Alternative Energy.
Gupte is presently non executive chairman of ICICI Venture Funds Management Co and a board member of Nokia and Bharat Forge Ltd.
Alstom said in a statement that these nominations aim to develop the diversity of Alstom's board members.
The statement said, "Because of their Indian and American nationalities, their rich and diverse professional careers and their contributions to major companies such as ICICI Bank or BP, Lalita Gupte and Katrina Landis will bring to the board their international experience and knowledge of the markets where Alstom operates."
The annual shareholders' meeting also approved the renewal of the appointments of Georges Chodron de Courcel, Olivier Bouygues and Bouygues SA, as directors.
Gupte, 61, holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in management studies from Mumbai University.
Beginning her career with ICICI Ltd in 1971, she held various leadership positions in areas of corporate and retail banking, strategy and international banking. She has been instrumental in transforming ICICI Bank into a diversified financial services group.
Gupte was in charge of developing the retail domestic bank, the listing of ICICI on the New York Stock Exchange in 1998-1999, before leading international operations starting in 2001. Between 2002 and 2006 she was Chief Operating Officer and member of the board of ICICI Bank.
